FANTASTISCH

Das Abschneiden der TURM-Blitzer beim jüngsten LICHESS-Marathon ist fantastisch! HUB18 alias Hans Barmbold und SIMWIN23 alias Simon Windmüller sind unter den TOP10!
HUB18 bringt hier seinen Bericht.
HUB18s Insights:
The question is: chess or sleep?
Answer: CHESS. 2+1 this Time.
The 2+1 Autumn Marathon 2024 was on the agenda, from 26.10.2024 at 02:00 to 27.10.2024, 02:00; available at https://lichess.org/tournament/autumn24 .
A long, long day of chess, 24 hours; the bullet marathon took place! A day can seem quite long. The time control was 2+1, with the possibility to halve the time to get extra points. But that results in 1+0 and my strategy was to berserk only very little, because the risk of loosing increases more than the reward in my opinion. I berserked 3% of my Games. The prize was a digital trophy in the Lichess profile for the Top500.
It was my 11th participation in such a marathon, I’m a veteran you could say. I needed 4 cups of coffee and my determination, the adrenaline, my ability to being a night owl, pulling all-nighters quiet easily and staying awake 24h+ did the rest. I started at 3 am and played till the end with a few breaks. I played in total 20h and 52 mins. My goal was to achieve my first Top10 Trophy. And from the start it was looking good. I etablished in the Top 10 and even in the Top5 and @hub18 (me, myself & I) finished 4th!! This is my all-time best result in a Marathon!!
20 555 players took part! 219 733 games were played and 15 643 941 moves! You could say that almost all of Lichess was on its feet! I played 374 games in total. 188 wins compared to 104 losses, with 79 draws. I am very satisfied with a performance of 2665, with an average opponent rating of 2661! That’s my best performance in a Marathon! 600 points were my Goal at the End, I wanted that number, that benchmark and achieved it at 01:54 am exactly with a Double Berserk Game.
Many of the SC Turm team also took part, such as @simwin23, alias Simon Windmüller, who finished 6th! @ninehundredsixty got 131th, @why_always_me got 265th & @cska_moscou got 494th!
There is a Trophy for the Top10, Top50, Top100 and Top500. All in all, it was again a very interesting experience, exhausting but challenging in a positive sense. The next game was always starting, the next strong opponent was ready, sometimes a game lasted 6 minutes or only 2 minutes, you resigned even in a hopeless position or your opponent did so.
In summary, it was again a great, successful format and a wonderful organization by Lichess!
The next Marathon has a 3+0 Time control, it’s a good opportunity for berserking 100%.
